TuetsMas Tuets is an 18th century farmhouse that sits between 500 and 600 meters above sea level on a beautiful swath of land in the Alt Camp, at the edge of the Conca de Barberà, Penedès and Tarragona wine regions. While much of the land is pristine forest, 22 hectares are dedicated to certified organic grape growing on limestone and clay soils as part of an area protected by the Natura 2000 network. Young Albert Domingo is the 6th generation of his family to care for the estate, employing biodynamic practices in order to treat their farm as a living organism. He began his project Celler Tuets in 2012 focusing on 7 hectares of the older indigenous grape varieties on the property, and fermenting in steel vats and minimal intervention in the winery. He is producing wines without artifice, lively, delicious expressions of Catalan terroir. Albert’s philosophy thus plays on the estate's name, because in Catalan, Tuets means "you are." A predestination from the ancestors.
The Wines
Tot Ancestral is 95% Parellada and 5% Moscatel de Alexandria from 2 organically and biodynamically farmed parcels planted in 1998 at 550-600m elevation on clay/calcareous soils. The grapes were harvested by hand on the same day, destemmed and co-fermented with 1 day on skins. After pressing, the wine was fermented in tank until almost dry (1002 gravity), then bottled for natural carbonation to develop bubbles in the ancestral method. The wine was disgorged the following March without fining, filtration or sulfur addition.
Tot Blanc is 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Garnatxa Blanca from 2 organically and biodynamically farmed parcels planted in 1997-98 at 550-600m elevation on clay/calcareous soils. The grapes were harvested by hand on the same day, destemmed and co-fermented whole-berry with 7 days on skins in stainless steel tanks. After a gentle pressing, the wine finished fermentation and aged on fine lees in tank for 8-9 months, and was bottled without fining, filtration or sulfur addition. Tot is a clarete of Parellada, Macabeu, Garnatxa Blanca, Chenin Blanc, Ull de Llebre and Syrah from 6 organically and biodynamically farmed parcels planted between 1958 and 1998 at 550-600m elevation on clay/calcareous soils. The grapes were harvested by hand on the same day, destemmed and co-fermented with 1 day on skins in stainless steel tanks. After a gentle pressing, the wine finished fermentation and aged on fine lees in tank for 8-9 months, and was bottled without fining, filtration or sulfur addition. Tot Negre is 50% Ull de Llebre and 50% Syrah from 2 organically and biodynamically farmed parcels planted in 1997-98 at 550-600m elevation on clay/calcareous soils. The grapes were harvested by hand on the same day, half the fruit was destemmed whole-berry and half was direct pressed, then co-fermented with 8 days on skins in stainless steel tanks.
